S.A.D. Rescue and Sanctuary is an all-volunteer 501c3 nonprofit organization located in Starke County, Indiana. We are a private rescue and do not receive funds from the County. We are a foster-based rescue and we have an adoption center called “Hanna’s House”. Hanna’s house is a temporary holding area for some dogs we rescue. We never have more than 8 dogs at a time in our adoption center so that we can provide the attention that each dog requires. The dogs at Hanna’s House have supervised access to their own grassy play yards and those that enjoy swimming have an inground dog pool in the summer months. When they arrive here, they stay at Hanna’s house while they are being evaluated and vetted before going to a foster home. We are located on 13 acres and have 7 acres of walking trails to relieve stress . Hanna’s House has all the comforts of home including TV’s and Couches. Dogs are never left alone; someone is on the property 24/7. Dogs are usually ready to go to foster homes within 2 weeks. Our Sanctuary dogs who are too debilitated, feral, old or ill to be adopted reside in our caretaker’s home located on the property. They can remain here to live out their days, surrounded by caretakers and volunteers who put the animals’ well-being first.
If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please fill out an application on our website. In order to meet a dog you must have an approved application. Once your application is approved, we will schedule an appointment to either meet the dog at Hannah’s House or at the foster home.
We rescue dogs from our backyard, other states, and overseas if necessary. It is hard enough to accept that innocent dogs are killed every day in U.S. shelters; however, it is even harder to accept when dogs are tortured and killed inhumanely in other states and overseas where animal welfare laws are nonexistent or not enforced. Our rescue is not limited by boundaries. We rescue where our hearts lead us…
